A Loaded Gun — Emily Dickinson
A LOADED GUN
Emily Dickinson wrote: “My Life had stood — a Loaded Gun —”.
Here, that line stops being only a verse and becomes a body: a frontal, motionless figure with two crossed revolvers and a gaze that does not need to raise its voice to command distance. Red floods everything, as if fury had finally found a precise way to remain still.
A LOADED GUN is about contained power, autonomy, and that kind of energy that does not ask permission to exist. There is no heroic gesture. None is needed. The tension of someone who knows exactly what they could do — and chooses when — is enough.
The image preserves something essential from Emily Dickinson’s poem: the sense of a force that had been there all along, waiting to be recognised.
Not all power needs to be fired to make itself felt.
