There is a vegetal secrecy in the way a porous calyx or a thorn reproduces the temperature of flesh. The gaze travels across stems and seed capsules as though examining, beneath the lens of a herbarium, an organ that is still alive. Among microscopic hairs, moist folds and secretions of pigment, botany abandons its classificatory obsession to reveal a latent anatomy that the body recognises before it can give it a name.
