Painting ceases to repeat the history of art and instead subjects it to scrutiny: each figure appears isolated before a visual lineage that continues to watch from the past. Expressionism returns here not as an inherited style, but as a silent dialogue between different periods, in which intense colour and distortion preserve the emotional memory of those who painted before. At the centre of the composition, the contemporary subject carries that legacy with a mixture of fragility and resistance, like someone contemplating a family portrait whose history they know only in part.
